[phone rings] “John?” “Yeah?” “This is… (insert about 20 seconds of description/disclaimer). Can you do us a favor?” “Uh…” “The TV station is coming to our (school/office/whatever) and they want to focus on Insert event}. Will you draw on our erasable board to give them something to film!?” “Do I have to bring my own markers?” […]

That’s the ‘greatest’ ace I’ve ever interviewed, Kyosti Karhila – 37 victories. Aside from being a gentleman, historian and hero of Finland, he was also a fine man for letting me, a ‘Merican, draw the Bf-109G he flew against the Russians in WWII. I have but four, five prints left…maybe more if I stashed some […]

I sketch with crayons, pens, pencils and thanks to Apple®, I can doodle into my iPad and make cool time-lapse drawings. The Curtiss SB2C-4 Helldiver above took me about 8 minutes to draw but you get to see it in 19 seconds.

But note the stuff on his kitchen table – books, cards, prescriptions, pens…the stuff of he and his wife’s sunset days. Wendell […]

Afterwards, there was an autograph session; the line was long but it came to a gobsmacking stop when I realized that among the snaking queue of adults was an 11 year old sprite. When it […]

A Remarque is when I draw a little sketch on one of my prints. This particular one is a request of a patron who just purchased my art of the F-105 flown by Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Leo Thorsness and his “backseater” Harry Johnson. This particular print is rare in that both men signed […]

Robert “Punchy” Powell was one of the first fighter pilots I interviewed; I ended up traveling with him internationally as well as to various events in the U.S. However, he had an outstanding ad-hoc “air museum” in his house that contained a piece of the P-51B Mustang that he flew in WWII. Christened, “The […]
